Post-Operative Instructions

Post-Operative Instructions

Congratulations on completing your endodontic treatment! Proper post-operative care is essential to ensure the success of your treatment and promote optimal healing. Here are some instructions to follow in the days and weeks following your procedure:

Managing Discomfort: It's normal to experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity after endodontic treatment. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help alleviate any discomfort. Follow the dosage instructions on the medication packaging and avoid aspirin if you're prone to bleeding.

Avoid Chewing on the Treated Tooth: Before your final restoration, avoid chewing on hard or sticky foods with the treated tooth to prevent damage. Chew on the opposite side of your mouth or choose softer foods that won't pressure the treated tooth excessively.

Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss your teeth regularly and be gentle around the treated tooth. Avoid vigorous rinsing or spitting, especially immediately after the procedure, to prevent dislodging the temporary restoration.

Temporary Restoration: A temporary restoration has been placed on the outer surface of your tooth. It is essential to follow up with your restorative dentist promptly to have a permanent restoration placed. Contact your restorative dentist to schedule an appointment for the final restoration as soon as possible.

Follow-Up Appointment: A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to evaluate the progress of healing and ensure the success of the treatment. Attend this appointment as scheduled, as it is essential for monitoring your recovery and addressing any concerns.

Avoid Certain Activities: Avoid activities that may increase the risk of trauma or damage to the treated tooth, such as biting on hard objects or playing contact sports without a mouthguard. If you grind your teeth at night, consider using a nightguard to protect the treated tooth and surrounding teeth.

Contact Us if Needed: If you experience severe pain, swelling, or persistent symptoms, contact our office for further evaluation. Similarly, if you have any questions or concerns about your post-operative care, please contact us for assistance.

Follow Special Instructions: Depending on your specific case, your endodontist may provide additional instructions or precautions to follow. Be sure to follow these instructions carefully for the best possible outcome.

Maintain Good Overall Health: Take care of your overall health by eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and getting plenty of rest. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, as these habits can hinder the healing process and increase the risk of complications.

By following these post-operative instructions and maintaining good oral hygiene habits, you can help ensure a smooth recovery and long-term success of your endodontic treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact our office. We're here to support you every step of the way on your journey to optimal oral health.

Hands down, one of the BEST dentist. If not, THEN THE BEST. I am usually SCARED of dental procedures. I came in for a root canal and they made me feel SO comfortable, gave me knowledge on how the procedure will go, and were one of the nicest staffs I met in ANY BUSINESS. They are so good at what they do to the point I didn't feel any pain at all from start to finish. THANK YOU APEX, YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING.

Everyone is so so nice and professional! Dr. Prakash explains everything very well. Her and the dental assistance, Stacy, both kept checking on me throughout my procedure. My appointment was about 1.5 hours for a consultation, x-rays, and a root canal. Would definitely recommend!

Can't recommend enough! Went in for tooth pain/sensitivity where my crown is. Evaluation determined I needed a root canal. So if course I was extremely nervous. But Dr. Prakash and Stacy were fantastic. Gave me plenty of numbing and lots of positive encouragement. Everything was done before I knew it. If you're looking for a great place to go - this is it!

Dr Prakash and everyone at Apex is great! I took my mom in for a root canal and we were in and out in about 90 minutes. Who isn’t nervous at the dentist office? But Dr Prakash’s calm approach and friendly bedside manner put us at ease right away. I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone qualified, and who can get the job done. 5 stars for sure!
